The Importance of Sleep (and Other Things That Happen at 3am)

Last night I woke up at 3am — no real reason, just one of those sudden, annoying bursts of consciousness. I lay there in the dark, trying to coax myself back to sleep… and that’s when I heard it. A low, rumbling growl. Then another. The unmistakable sound of bears invading our bedroom.

Or, you know — my husband, peacefully snoring like a forest beast, utterly unaware of the battle for sanity happening right next to him.

Sleep is weird. One of you enters hibernation mode, while the other is left staring into the abyss, hoping to nod off before the next elephant stampede (snore cycle) begins.

And then come the thoughts. The random, beautifully bizarre 3am thoughts like:

  • Do hedgehogs have best friends?

  • Did I ever reply to that email from February?

  • What is the right front-end development house for FM2Y, and what does that choice mean for the next 12 months of my life?

  • Should I learn to sail?

  • Where did I leave my passport?

  • Why does “Wednesday” have so many silent letters?

  • Are olives fruit?

There’s no moral here, really. Just a bleary-eyed love letter to sleep — and to all of us who miss it sometimes. Especially when sharing a bed with snoring wildlife.

Here’s to better rest tonight. And maybe a shortlist for frontend partners by morning..
